Crowther Dairy Goes Solar

SANFORD, CO--(Marketwire - November 25, 2008) - Crowther Dairy, based in Alamosa, Colorado, has just completed a 9.9kW solar electric system installation. Astralux Power Systems provided design, engineering, and installation services for this solar project.

Owned by Bob Crowther, Crowther Dairy will now run partly on solar energy, as nearly 50% of their electricity needs are met by this solar power system. This commercial ground mount system is comprised of worldwide industry leading Sharp solar panels which will benefit from Colorado's 300-plus days of sunlight per year.

"We are proud to have Crowther Dairy as our first commercial project in the city of Sanford," says Dr. Rande Treece, CEO of Astralux. "We also commend Mr. Crowther for his efforts to create the first 'Green' dairy in Southern Colorado."

The positive environmental impacts of this system are impressive. Over the warranted life of the system, it will offset nearly 600,000 pounds of CO2 (greenhouse) emissions and prevent over 300,000 pounds of coal being burned. This system will produce close to 17,000 kWh of electricity per year.

Utility rebates combined with federal tax benefits will pay for over 100% of the cost of this system. This is made possible by the generous federal solar tax credits available for commercial buildings and the Xcel Energy Solar Rewards Program. The investment tax credit for solar was recently extended until 2016.

This system will save the Dairy tens of thousands of dollars in electricity costs and protect them against future increasing energy costs. Xcel Energy electricity rates in Colorado have increased nearly 75% since 2002.
