Cubic Receives $10.6 Million Contract to Produce Javelin Field Tactical Trainer Components

ORLANDO, FL--(Marketwire - December 1, 2008) - Cubic Corporation (NYSE: CUB) has received a $10.6 million contract to produce Basic Skills Trainers and student and instructor stations for the Javelin Field Tactical Trainer under contract to the Raytheon-Lockheed Martin Javelin Joint Venture.

The Javelin is the world's first man-portable fire-and-forget medium-range missile system. U.S. Army and Marine Corps gunners use both the Basic Skills Trainer and the Field Tactical Trainer to learn how to operate the missile system effectively.

"Cubic has produced over 1,800 Javelin training devices, and is pleased to be working with the Javelin Joint Venture to produce world-class systems that are essential to the success of the Javelin mission," said Karen Pickell, Javelin program manager for Cubic's Orlando-based Simulation Systems Division.

The Javelin Field Tactical Trainer includes a Command Launch Unit (CLU) and a directed MILES laser capable of MILES pairing -- recording a near miss, hit or kill -- up to 3,000 meters on the training range or in force-on-force scenarios. The laser is directed by the system tracker after lock-on.

The Javelin Basic Skills Trainer provides critical classroom training in field surveillance, target locating and acquisition, and fire mission control in the classroom, garrison, or aboard ship. It features preprogrammed training scenarios that are available through a color LCD display embedded in the simulated CLU. Operational switches and controls perform exactly like the actual equipment. Cubic began work on the new contract in September and is scheduled to begin delivering training systems in the first quarter of 2010.

The Cubic Simulation Systems Division is part of the defense segment of Cubic Corporation, a world leader in realistic combat training systems, mission support services and defense electronics. The corporation's other major segment, Cubic Transportation Systems, designs and manufactures automatic fare collection systems for public mass transit authorities.
