Cummins Westport ISL G for Buses & Trucks Approved for US Federal Tax Credit

Incentive gives US natural gas vehicle buyers an economic and environmental edge

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Nov. 16, 2007) - Cummins Westport Inc. ("CWI") (TSX:WPT), a leading provider of high-performance alternative fuel engines for the global market, announced today that the United States Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has confirmed tax credit eligibility for buyers of medium and heavy duty vehicles with the Cummins Westport ISL G natural gas engine installed.

"The ISL G is the world's first heavy duty engine for urban bus and truck applications to be certified to the 2010 EPA standard," said Guan Saw, President of Cummins Westport. "This significant tax credit makes Cummins Westport ISL G-powered vehicles not only the lowest emissions in heavy duty vehicles available today, but also an economical choice."

Customers may be eligible for tax credits on medium duty vehicles with a gross weight between 14,001-26,000 lbs of US $20,000 per vehicle, or US $32,000 for heavy duty vehicles over 26,000 lbs. equipped with the ISL G engine, as calculated based on the Alternative Fuel Motor Vehicle Credit, part of the Energy Policy Act of 2005. Some limitations to the credit may apply, depending on the specific circumstances of the customer, and it is recommended customers contact the IRS or a tax advisor to determine if and how the tax credit will apply to their truck purchase.

About the Cummins Westport ISL G

The ISL G surpasses EPA 2007 phase-in levels and meets 2010 emission standards of 0.2 g/bhp-hr NOx and 0.01 g/bhp-hr PM. Based on the Cummins ISL, the ISL G leverages Cummins proven cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation ("EGR") with stoichiometric combustion allowing for the use of a three way catalyst, which is maintenance free and is in common use in passenger cars. In addition to delivering ultra low emissions, the ISL G, with ratings from 250 to 320 horsepower, will deliver increased thermal efficiency and over 30% higher low-speed torque compared with today's CWI "Plus" engines. Cummins Westport has already logged significant orders for the ISL G from U.S. transit properties, including LAMTA, Sacramento Regional Transit and the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA).
