Cuppa Tea Still Top for Van Drivers & Builders

MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Oct. 18, 2009) - English Tea is still the most popular drink for van drivers on the job, according to Swinton Vans, one of the UK's leading providers of commercial vehicle insurance.

A survey of 1,500 van insurance customers, found that tea is still the favourite drink, significantly beating coffee and herbal teas.

According to the survey, the top drinks while on-the-job were:

  1. Tea (41%)
  2. Coffee (23%)
  3. Fizzy drinks (16%)
  4. Water (11%)
  5. Other (6%)
  6. Herbal tea (3%)

When it comes to sugar, van drivers still have a very sweet tooth. Of those questioned, 41% preferred two sugars per cup of tea, 17% had just one sugar and 6% had three sugars! Only 18% were sweet enough with no additional sugar and just 7% preferred artificial sweeteners.

Phil Moss, Commercial Vehicle Insurance Manager at Swinton, said: "We all make jokes about builders and other tradesmen loving tea, but this survey proves that it's still the favourite drink for our van drivers. And with herbal tea being so far down the list, we don't anticipate any drastic changes anytime soon."
