CyOptics Acquires Inplane Photonics

Acquisition of "Silica-on-Silicon" PLC Technology Expands CyOptics' Toolbox for Photonic Integrated Circuits

LEHIGH VALLEY, PA--(Marketwire - November 7, 2007) - CyOptics, Inc., a leader in Indium Phosphide (InP) optical chip and component technologies, today announced the acquisition of Inplane Photonics, a leading manufacturer of Planar Lightwave Circuits (PLCs) for optical networks in Telecommunications and Defense applications. Terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.

Inplane's unique industry leading silica-on-silicon PLC technology enables the integration of optical circuits for data transmission, distribution, detection and conditioning on multi-function silicon chips. This integration allows the miniaturization of components for optical communication networks in a variety of markets, from Telecom to Bio-Photonics and Test & Measurement. The acquisition expands CyOptics' Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs) technology platforms through the combination of monolithic and hybrid integration of InP laser and detector arrays onto PLCs. This integration will reduce dramatically the number of individual components required, thereby increasing the functionality and lowering the cost of the overall solution.
