Cyberbully Hotline Introduced by SchoolReach

Service Helps Students Report Cyberbullying Incidents

ST. LOUIS, MO--(Marketwire - April 21, 2010) -  A cyberbully hotline service has been introduced by SchoolReach Instant Parent Contact in response to growing numbers of cyberbullying and harassment incidents. The interactive toll-free based service is designed to help students, victims and witness report a cyberbullying incident.

Cyberbullying has become a pervasive and destructive way for students to verbally and visually attack other students often leading to victim stress, anxiety, violence, and potentially suicide. The ease of access to social networking sites and the ubiquitous use of texting among students has opened a Pandora's Box of cyberbullying and other forms of harassment. "Students are more likely to say things in text than they would dare say face to face," said Paul Langhorst, chief marketing officer for SchoolReach. "The social network sites and text messaging creates a buffer which makes launching such attacks less emotional, confrontational and therefore easier."

SchoolReach is a leader in the development and delivery of school notification services. The SchoolReach Cyberbully Hotline provides a conduit through which students may report incidents of cyberbullying without need for an initial live conversation or face-to-face meeting. The service allows students to record a message which is then relayed to school officials by way of digital audio recording forwarded by email to one or more recipients. "We believe the first call is the hardest," said Langhorst. "Our service helps eliminate the fear and hesitation of a two-way communication; we believe this will increase the likelihood that more incidents will be reported."

Districts can establish a central Cyberbully Hotline or a unique line for each school. The service requires no installation of local hardware and can be operational within one business day. For more information, please visit www.schoolreach.com/cyberbully.html.
