Since starting in the UK in 1968, DEEP PURPLE has reinvented itself multiple times, first establishing the sound that would eventually be known as "hard rock." Fans worldwide immediately recognize the pulsating chords of DEEP PURPLE's "Smoke on the Water," and "Highway Star" (the 8th greatest rock guitar solo of all time). The band's numerous albums, including "Deep Purple in Rock" (1970) and "Machine Head" (1972), and their more recent successes such as "Rapture of the Deep" (2005), have placed them firmly in the ranks of the best-selling artists of all time, with more than 100 million sold.
