DRS Technologies Receives $22 Million in Orders for Reset and Overhaul of U.S. Air Force Tunner Cargo Loaders

PARSIPPANY, NJ--(Marketwire - May 6, 2010) -

Highlights / Key Facts:

  • DRS Technologies, Inc. announced it has received a $22 Million contract from the U.S. Air Force for the reset/overhaul of Tunner 60K Cargo Loader/Transporters.

  • The reset/overhaul is to return them to a near zero hour/zero mile condition. The contract continues the efforts to refit and refurbish the Tunner fleet that began in October 2009.

  • For these orders, DRS will continue its legacy of providing critical sustainment support and cargo velocity to the air mobility process.

  • The work is being performed by the company's DRS Sustainment Systems unit's manufacturing facility in West Plains, Missouri, and is expected to continue through 2010.

  • This Contractor Logistics Support (CLS) is a follow-on contract that was awarded to DRS by the Warner Robins Air Logistics Center at Robins Air Force Base in Georgia.

About the Technology:

  • The Tunner is a highly mobile aircraft cargo loader that can transport up to six pallets of cargo with a gross weight of 60,000 pounds.

  • The Tunner has a versatile deck which can elevate from 39 inches to 18.5 feet and is adjustable for pitch, roll, side shift and yaw. With its powered conveyor system to move the cargo, the Tunner is the ideal aircraft cargo loading system.

  • Multiple Tunners can be connected to create a cargo bridge, increasing cargo onload/offload velocity.

  • The Tunner interfaces with military and commercial cargo aircraft, including the C-5, C-17, B747, L-1011 and DC-10 aircraft.
