Dairy Farmers Market 2.5 Billion Litres in 2007

MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Jan. 9, 2008) - - Dairy Farmers of Ontario (DFO) reported marketings of 2.46 billion litres of milk for the fiscal year ending October 31, 2007. The figure was released with the presentation of DFO's Annual Report at its 42nd Annual Meeting in Toronto on January 9 and 10, and represented a slight increase from the previous year.

For this milk, DFO billed processors $1.79 billion. The organization retained $65.8 million for milk transportation, $10.3 million for administration of the marketing system, $31.8 million for market expansion and about $986,000 to support research.

The organization also collected $1.5 million for the Ontario Dairy Herd Improvement Corporation in support of milk recording programs.

The $1.68 billion balance was paid to the 4,511 licenced dairy farms in Ontario which support about 9,400 families.

Dairy Farmers of Ontario is a non-profit dairy farmer organization that represents all milk producers in Ontario and is totally financed by them.
