Danaos Corporation Receives Award for Achievement in Community Work and Corporate Responsibility

ATHENS, GREECE -- (MARKET WIRE) -- October 30, 2006 -- Twenty-five of Danaos Corporation's (NYSE: DAC) vessels were presented the AMVER AWARD by the United States Coast Guard (USCG) for their continued participation (over 128 consecutive days) in the Automated Mutual Assistance Vessel Rescue program in the Year 2005. The Awards were presented during the AMVER AWARDS dinner of the PROPPELLER CLUB held in Athens, on October 24, 2006

AMVER is a worldwide voluntary ship reporting system, operated by USCG, to promote safety of life at sea. It is a unique computer-based system used by search and rescue authorities to arrange assistance to persons in distress. With AMVER, rescue coordinators can identify participating ships in the area of distress and divert the best-suited ship or ships to respond. Participation in AMVER is free, voluntary, and open to merchant ships of all flags.

The USCG created the AMVER AWARDS program as a special way to reward those vessels that remain on plot for at least 128 days of the year. The Awards are a tribute to the ship's crew, management and to their ownership and are critical to the continued success of the program.

Dr. John Coustas, President and CEO of Danaos Corporation commented: "We are very proud to receive this recognition from the US Coast Guard, which rewards our commitment to high operational and safety standards for our fleet and for safety of life at sea."
