Department of National Defence/Media Advisory: Media Invited to Attend Maple Flag XXXIX Media Days

4 WING COLD LAKE, ALBERTA--(CCNMatthews - May 16, 2006) - Media are invited to attend Exercise MAPLE FLAG XXXIX (MF 39) Media Days, to be held every Thursday throughout the six-week coalition exercise, from 14 May to 23 June, 2006.

The media days will involve photo opportunities of the aircraft launches and interview opportunities with key individuals involved with the planning and execution of MF 39, including the MF exercise director. In Period 1 of the exercise, Media Day participants will also have the opportunity to tour Camp Medley, a 250-person support camp, stood up by personnel from 17 Wing Winnipeg as part of the Air Force's new Mission Support Readiness initiative.

Mission Support Readiness will provide a rapidly deployable, composite capability designed to meet assigned Air Force missions. Camp Medley is being set up as a proof of concept in preparation for the 17 Wing Mission Support Squadron's upcoming overseas deployment.

Exercise MF is a six-week international exercise designed to provide critical air combat training for Canadian and allied aircrews. Introduced in 1978, MF was developed to enhance the survivability and improve the performance of junior aircrew by providing them with their first 10 air combat missions in a structured academic setting. MF 39 will see an increased involvement from Canadian Forces - air and ground components.
