Department of Defense Invests in Extending Adapx Solutions to First Responders

Capturx Software for Digital Pens and First Responders Featured at This Week's Technologies for Critical Incident Preparedness Conference in Philadelphia

SEATTLE, WA--(Marketwire - February 1, 2010) - Adapx (www.adapx.com) today announced that the Center for Commercialization of Advanced Technology (CCAT) in San Diego has awarded Adapx with a Department of Defense 1401 Program grant to extend Capturx solutions into the first responder community. First responders and emergency teams across the country use Capturx software for digital pens to instantly collect and share handwritten data on forms and maps with other agencies and officials for improved collaboration, response, and preparedness. The new funding will be used to implement Capturx solutions in new data collection and collaboration scenarios with first responder teams.

Capturx: Helping Teams Better Prepare and Respond to Emergencies

Capturx is used by a range of first responder and emergency teams such as Santa Barbara Fire, City of Nashua (NH), City of Boise, and Arizona Fusion Center's Automated Critical Asset Management System (ACAMS) in Phoenix to help teams better prepare and respond to emergencies. With Capturx software and digital pens, first responders can continue collecting data simply and reliably on paper forms, notebooks, or maps. The handwritten data can then be instantly sent and automatically integrated into Microsoft Office, SharePoint, or ArcGIS. Central command teams can get immediate visibility to data collected in the field, helping them make better decisions without waiting for data on paper to be returned or having to deploy complex mobile computers.

For example, police, fire and emergency officials arriving on the scene of a disaster can rapidly mark up paper maps to track accurate information about fast changing events including flooded streets, downed power lines, fires, or people in need of rescue. They can instantly send the critical data to central teams for sharing and tracking through ArcGIS or Microsoft Excel. Only Capturx allows field workers to immediately share handwritten critical information with other agencies and officials without any complex equipment or training.

The conference highlights Department of Justice (DOJ), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and Department of Defense (DoD) technologies, Research, Development, Test & Evaluation (RDT&E) investments, and training tools currently available and being developed for the emergency responder community. The conference also provides a forum for emergency responders to discuss best practices and exchange information.

In addition to being showcased in the booths, Dr. Phil Cohen, co-founder and executive vice president of research at Adapx, will demonstrate the Capturx solutions on February 3, 2010 from 11:00 am-12:00 pm in the Demonstration Area.

About the Center for Commercialization of Advanced Technology

The funding is made available through the DoD's 1401 Technology Transfer Program and will be administered through the Center for Commercialization of Advanced Technology (CCAT), San Diego, a national partnership of universities, industry, and government to identify and accelerate commercialization of emerging technologies critical to national defense and homeland security. The CCAT San Diego Team will conduct an independent performance assessment of the technologies to include first responder input and prepare a detailed report for distribution to the applicant, the first responder community participants, and the government program sponsors.
