Deteriorating Consulting Demand Foretells Stark Contrast to Historical Cycles

Kennedy Releases Annual Outlook for Consulting Services

PETERBOROUGH, NH--(Marketwire - November 19, 2008) - Kennedy Information, the leading research firm covering global consulting markets, expects that total demand for consulting services will continue to decelerate for the remainder of the decade. Recent forecasts of the current decade's growth rate are the lowest for any decade since prior to 1970.

This period of slow growth, precipitated by economic factors, increased financing challenges and decreased M&A activity, has created the most significant challenge as yet to be faced by the consulting profession. Kennedy analysts predict the downturn will persist for a comparatively long time and is not expected to rebound with a significant upswing, as has historically been the case. Kennedy's consensus view is that this represents the dawning of a new maturation phase of consulting demand where the highs will not be as high, nor the lows as low.

In the current business cycle (2007-2011) Kennedy forecasts indicate that a robust recovery in 2011, and the years immediately following, is highly improbable. Kennedy advises consultancies to find opportunities in a variety of niche market segments.

Kennedy's annual "state-of-the-industry" research, "Global Consulting Marketplace 2008-2011: Key Trends, Profiles and Forecasts," assesses why and to what extent each of the major consulting service areas will be impacted in the coming years, which firms will recover fastest, and which are expected to continue to lead in their respective areas of expertise.

Among the firms rated in the research are: Accenture, Aon Consulting, A.T. Kearney, Bain & Company, BDO International, Bearing Point, Booz Allen Hamilton, The Boston Consulting Group, Capgemini, Celerant Consulting, Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC), Deloitte, Ernst & Young, Fujitsu Consulting, Grant Thornton International, Hewitt Associates, IBM Global Services, KPMG International, McKinsey & Company, Mercer (HR), Monitor Group, NTT Data Systems, PA Consulting Group, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Roland Berger Strategy Consultants, Towers Perrin, and Watson Wyatt.
