Dinner Behind the Bench to Honour Hall of Fame Coach Roger Neilson

Sens Foundation, NHL and NHL Coaches' Association Team-up for Inaugural Event

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 1, 2008) - On the eve of the fifth anniversary of the passing of Hall of Fame coach Roger Neilson to cancer, the NHL Coaches' Association, NHL and Sens Foundation will come together to present the first NHL Scotiabank Dinner Behind the Bench at the Brookstreet Hotel on Wednesday, June 18. The inaugural dinner, presented by the Ottawa Citizen as one of the first events during the 2008 NHL Draft in Ottawa, will raise funds in support of Roger's House.

Hall of Fame coach Scotty Bowman will introduce a tribute video of Roger Neilson, and Los Angeles Kings head coach, Marc Crawford, will be the keynote speaker.

"Roger (Neilson) meant so much to the game itself, the NHL, and coaches and players that it's only fitting to have the inaugural Scotiabank Dinner Behind The Bench honour his work and benefit his legacy in Roger's House," said Jeff McCreary, executive director of the NHL Coaches' Association, in announcing also that Roger's House has been designated the charity of choice for 2008. Neilson passed away on NHL Draft day Saturday, June 21, 2003, after a long-term battle with two forms of cancer.

"We are hoping to raise for Roger's House over $50,000 through our title sponsor in Scotiabank, our presenting sponsor in the Ottawa Citizen, live auction of hockey memorabilia, the attendance of over 350 guests and other sponsorship opportunities," added McCreary.

Geoff Moore, director, Scotia Private Client Group, added "We are delighted to be involved in this groundbreaking event, which not only highlights Roger Neilson and his legacy in Roger's House, but also allows us to re-inforce our new partnership with the NHL at a grass roots level."

In addition to the keynote address by Crawford and the Roger Neilson tribute video, comedian and magician Andre Harris will perform in the evening.

There will also be a one of a kind NHL Jersey Lottery with autographed jerseys from each NHL team, as well as special additional memorabilia. All the items and details will be announced at a later date and listed on the Sens Foundation website.
