"Dreamgirls - Original Broadway Cast Album: Special Edition" Adds Previously Unreleased Recordings Plus Second Disc With Sing-Along Instrumentals and Dance Remix of No. 1 Hit "And I Am Telling

You I'm Not Going"

SANTA MONICA, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- November 17, 2006 -- This December, 25 years after opening on Broadway, "Dreamgirls" premieres on the silver screen. For fans of the original stage production as well as a new generation of fans sparked by the movie, the two-CD "Dreamgirls - Original Broadway Cast Album: Special Edition" (Decca Broadway/UMe), to be released November 21, 2006, is a treasure. One disc features a newly remastered version of the original album plus three previously unreleased cast recordings. The second disc includes previously unreleased original instrumentals (recorded for live TV appearances by the cast) of nine of the show's highlights -- perfect for karaoke nights -- and a newly commissioned Craig C. dance remix of the show's biggest hit, "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going."

The three previously unreleased recordings include "Dreamgirls (Finale)," "Driving Down The Strip" and "It's All Over," the dramatic lead-in to "And I Am Telling You..." Also included in the package is a fabulous booklet with a reproduction of the original LP's color gatefold, the original LP liner notes, a personal introduction from the show composer Henry Krieger and, for the first time ever, a reprint of the full lyrics.

"Dreamgirls" is the rags-to-riches story of a black all-girl singing trio from Chicago called The Dreams who experience much heartache but also find their dreams come true -- a story that partly echoed that of the real-life Supremes. With music by Krieger and book by Tom Eyen, the Michael Bennett-directed musical starred Jennifer Holliday, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Loretta Devine, Ben Harney, Cleavant Derricks, and Obba Babatunde. "Dreamgirls" opened December 20, 1981, at Broadway's Imperial Theatre and ran for nearly four years (1,522 performances). It was nominated for 13 Tony Awards, including for Best Musical, and won six, including for Best Book of a Musical, Best Actor in a Musical (Harney), Best Actress in a Musical (Holliday), and Best Featured Actor in a Musical (Derricks).

"Dreamgirls - Original Broadway Cast Album," produced by David Foster (Celine Dion, Barbara Streisand, Josh Groban), was released in 1982 and reached #11 on the Pop chart and #4 R&B, making it the highest charting musical since "Hair" 13 years earlier. The album, which eventually went gold, also spun off the first Top 40 hit from a musical in many years: Holliday's earth-shaking rendition of "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going," which charted #22 Pop and #1 R&B. Another Holliday song, "I Am Changing," peaked in the R&B Top 30 while the Harney-Ralph duet "When I First Saw You" made the R&B Top 50. "Dreamgirls - Original Broadway Cast Album" won the GRAMMY® for Best Musical Show Album and earned two Grammys for Holliday, for Best Female R&B Vocal and Best New Artist.

Now more of the much-beloved musical is once again back on record.

Complementing the "Dreamgirls - Original Broadway Cast Album" release, Universal Music Enterprises and Historic Music Inc. are also proud to announce the December 5, 2006, release of "The Supremes - Reflections: The Definitive Performances 1963-1969." Featured for the first time on DVD are 16 classic full-length performances from (still) the world's #1 female group. Also included are four bonus clips, including a super-rare performance of the Supremes' first top 40 hit. Issued with full cooperation of the original Supremes -- Diana Ross, Mary Wilson and Florence Ballard, and Flo's replacement Cindy Birdsong -- this is the first official DVD anthology of classic archival television and live performances by this classic and influential group.
