Drive Away Your Bad Habits This Lent

MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - March 7, 2010) -

This Lent Swinton Commercial is urging van drivers to think about the way they drive and give up any bad habits.

Van insurance retailer Swinton Commercial surveyed 1,200 online customers and found that 86% admitted to picking up bad driving habits.

According to the poll, 47% admitted to still making calls and texting while driving.

Twenty-seven percent admitted to grabbing a quick snack while on the road with a further 16% changing lanes without indicating. Nine percent admitted to rushing through an amber light before it changes to red.

The most unusual bad habit that van drivers admitted to while driving was having a shave (1%).
Swinton Commercial is warning drivers that failing to give their full attention can cause accidents and could also land them in trouble with the police. Drivers caught using a mobile or deemed to be driving without due care and attention can face a hefty fine and up to nine penalty points.

Phil Moss, Commercial Vehicle Manager at Swinton Commercial said, "Most people will admit to bad driving habits, but some of these are also deemed against the law and carry fines and penalty points if the driver is caught. Getting penalty points on your licence can also increase subsequent van insurance premiums. We would urge drivers to ensure their concentration while driving to avoid any unnecessary accidents and convictions."
