E-Cycling Day: Success for Waste Management Facility in Ottawa

Participation doubled with more than 25 tonnes collected

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 26, 2007) - On Saturday, October 21, 2007, and for the third consecutive year, the Waste Management Ottawa Facility on Carp Road accepted obsolete electronics for eCycling. This year's participation more than doubled the numbers from the last eCycle event.

"Over 650 vehicles filled with computers, VCRs, clocks, stereos, office equipment and electronic toys to be recycled were received at our Waste Management Ottawa Facility," said Ross Wallace, Site Manager for the Ottawa Facility.

Community members expressed the need of recycling electronics and Waste Management has made it a priority. For the past three years, Ottawa residents have been invited to take concrete action in protecting our environment. The growing participation rate is proof positive of the need for this service.

"Over 25 tonnes of obsolete electronics were dropped off - enough to fill two tractor trailers. This success reaffirms we are on the right track for delivering innovative ways to manage waste," said Wallace. "Ottawa is a high-tech community and eCycling old electronics is an important way to reduce waste. At Waste Management we understand that, and we are committed to it."

Waste Management has been active in waste diversion and recycling efforts in the National Capital Region. From the region's first recycling program, to introducing new ideas to reduce waste, Waste Management has long been a committed proponent of diversion programs.
