E & E Awarded Blanket Purchase Agreement to Green Federal Buildings

BUFFALO, NY--(Marketwire - January 18, 2010) - Ecology and Environment, Inc. (NASDAQ: EEI) was recently awarded a nationwide Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA) to provide comprehensive energy services via the General Services Administration (GSA). E & E received one of 18 BPAs awarded by the GSA, who estimates their collective total value at $500 million. GSA is one of the world's largest building managers whose portfolio includes more than 350 million square feet of federally owned and leased space in more than 2,000 communities.

This BPA is part of a federal strategic sourcing initiative to transform Federal buildings into high performance green buildings with greater energy efficiency. Using Recovery Act (Stimulus) as well as non-Recovery Act monies, it is designed to help the federal government meet the greening goals established within various mandates and executive orders and may be used across the eleven national GSA regions and by all federal agencies. Services available through this BPA include: building services (energy audits, commissioning, metering); energy program support (including contracting); renewable energy development; greenhouse gas management; training in energy management; and organizational energy reduction programs.

"We're very pleased to have this new BPA contracting mechanism with the federal government, as we see opportunities to address building energy efficiency and facilities performance as a significant area of growth for our business," noted Gerard Gallagher, E & E's senior vice president of environmental sustainability.

E & E has long been a pioneer in energy use and green buildings. The company's global headquarters, built in 1987, is the oldest existing building in the world to receive the prestigious recognition of LEED Platinum -- the highest rating for a green building. Over the past 9 years, E & E reduced the carbon footprint of its building by 80% at a net cost savings. The firm is globally recognized for its energy and sustainability services, such as the award-winning Sustainable Installation Design Guide for Fort Hood, the largest U.S. military installation in the world. The Design Guide provides installation-wide standards for energy efficiency, such as energy performance requirements for buildings and equipment pertaining to maintenance, renovations, and new construction projects. Implementation of these standards is expected to result in a 20% decrease in Fort Hood's overall energy use.
