EDF and Sainsbury's Open In-Store Energy Centres but Will Customers Get the Best Advice?

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Dec. 4, 2009) - EDF Energy and Sainsbury's supermarkets are introducing a new way of getting home energy advice and products, with in-store 'Home Energy Centres'. Three of these centres have opened in Sainsbury's stores this week however; customers may not necessarily be given the best advice in terms of their gas and electricity bills.

The energy centres will offer energy saving devices like heat pumps, insulation and solar panels, as well as allowing customers to talk with EDF advisers about how to save energy in their homes. Advisers will also be there to help people switch to Sainsbury's gas and electricity tariffs, which are provided in partnership with EDF and allow customers to collect Nectar points when they spend money on their home energy.

Chris Eagle, commercial manager at Energychoices.co.uk, said: "These Home Energy Centres seem like a good idea in theory, and we're hoping the scheme will be rolled out across the UK.

"However, any consumer wishing to switch tariffs should research the market first and compare energy prices, rather than simply listening to sales talk from one provider and this isn't as difficult as it might sound.

"The only way to find your best energy deal is to compare all the tariffs available in your area, which you can do quickly and easily using our energy comparison calculator."

At Energychoices.co.uk, we believe that consumers should be able to benefit from clear, unbiased information about home energy, saving money, and caring for the environment.

The Home Energy Centres are currently being opened in Camberley, Kidderminster and Leicester, and customers across the country can order energy saving devices through these centres.

Speaking on behalf of Sainsbury's, commercial managers Adam Zeiderman said: "There are lots of people who want to invest in renewable energy products but they don't know how or where to start."

"By setting up our Home Energy Centres, we believe we're bringing green technology a step closer to everyone."
