ETS Launches ProofWriter Tool for Online Writing Evaluation and Improvement

PRINCETON, NJ--(Marketwire - November 5, 2007) - ETS's Interactive Learning Division has launched ProofWriter™, an online application that helps high school and college students check and revise their written work and build essential skills to become better writers. The ProofWriter tool provides feedback on fundamental aspects of writing, such as grammar, mechanics, word usage and writing style.

"Most students can relate to the experience of turning in a writing assignment they felt was well researched and well written, only to have it returned peppered with comments about poor grammar and improper sentence construction," says Charles Cascio, Vice President of ETS's Interactive Learning Division. "Why take the chance? The ProofWriter tool is a quick, inexpensive way to check your work and fix mistakes before submitting it for a grade."

Students can access the ProofWriter tool at from any computer with Internet access -- at home, in their dorm room or computer lab. They enter their written work into the online program to receive feedback within seconds. The program allows students to review highlighted errors, make revisions and resubmit their work for additional feedback if they wish. Two essay submissions cost just $2.49.

"ETS's Interactive Learning team is very proud of this milestone," Cascio continues. "ETS has a distinguished history of making an impact on what happens in the classroom and measuring student achievement, but we all know that learning doesn't stop at the end of the school day. ETS's Interactive Learning Division was created to provide students and families with tools that make learning more effective, wherever that learning takes place, and whenever they have a need for it."

The ProofWriter tool uses ETS's patented e-rater® scoring engine, the same technology that also powers ETS's Criterion™ Online Writing Evaluation Service, which is available for purchase by schools, districts and higher education institutions.
