Earth Science for Society Invites Industry Participation

Ambitious exhibit and outreach program offers a prime opportunity for sponsors and exhibitors to interact with the Earth Scientists of tomorrow.

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Feb. 23, 2010) - Organizers of Earth Science for Society announced today that they are still seeking corporate sponsorship and participation for their free 2-day exhibition, which will attract two thousand Calgary-area junior high school students and to which the public are invited. Earth Science for Society is a major outreach and education initiative presented in conjunction with the GeoCanada 2010 Conference taking place in Calgary this May. The Earth Science for Society Exhibition is a super-sized version of the very successful Kids in Science Program (KISP) that has been offered for several years as part of the Joint Annual Conference of the CSPG, CWLS and CSEG.

"With over 1800 students already registered," said Annette Milbradt, Committee Chair, "this is the largest Earth Science event for students and the public ever held in Calgary. It is a phenomenal opportunity for participating companies and professional organizations to demonstrate to students and members of the public the importance of Earth Science in our everyday lives. We invite companies not already involved in Earth Science for Society to support this initiative to connect with the young people who are the decision-makers of tomorrow."

Organizations like Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) Mining Matters see tremendous opportunity by participating in Earth Science for Society. PDAC Mining Matters spokesperson Laura Clinton urges other industry partners to get involved. "This kind of dynamic event provides us with an opportunity to engage students in learning about Earth Sciences and gives them the freedom to explore what interests them. It's an opportunity to tell our story to a whole new group of people who may influence the communities in which we operate. Plus, we feel it's very important to show young people the interesting career opportunities offered by the Earth Sciences. Who knows - we may even be encouraging a future CEO."
