Laws of User Experience (UX): Making It, or Breaking It, with the "UX Factor"

  • At 9 a.m. Monday, May 3, Anthony Franco will join Kelly Goto, principal & CEO of gotomedia, LLC, and representatives from Navy Federal Credit Union and National Geographic.
  • Whether you want to sell more software, improve customer relationships, increase employee efficiency, add brand value or increase revenue, the "UX Factor" needs to play a large role in your company's design and business strategy. This fast-paced workshop will help you cost-effectively and efficiently put UX theory into practice.
  • Anthony and Kelly's points on UX will be brought to life on stage through a panel of real-world examples, including how UX strategies have impacted business at National Geographic and Navy Federal Credit Union.

Top 10 Pitfalls to Avoid in RIA Development

  • Under the polite umbrella of "lessons learned," this session with Anthony at 10:05 a.m. Tuesday, May 4 will explore the pitfalls of inefficient workflows, worst practices and poor communication that will ensure the demise of any software project. While there are many ways to successfully design and develop Rich Internet Applications (RIAs), there are even more ways to fail.
  • Attendees who work in various processes - including agile, waterfall and spiral design and development - will take away valuable information about what not to do when expecting to get decent software out the door.

By the Book: Examining the Art of Building Great User Experience in Software

  • At 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, EffectiveUI Lead User Experience Architect John McRee will use examples from the new O'Reilly Media-published book he co-authored, "Effective UI: The Art of Building Great User Experience in Software," to discuss the difficulties associated with traditional planning and project requirements, how to embrace uncertainty and the unknown when developing software and the importance of adaptable versus rigid project requirements.
  • John will review three popular development methodologies - Waterfall, Big Design Up Front (BDUF) and Agile - providing a detailed overview of each, including their strengths and weaknesses.
  • John will also be signing copies of EffectiveUI's book at O'Reilly's booth #501 from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5.
