Elderplan and Human Arc Partner to Expand Benefits to Medicare Advantage Health Plan Members

BROOKLYN, NY and CLEVELAND, OH--(Marketwire - April 23, 2010) -  Elderplan (Brooklyn, NY), a not-for-profit Medicare Advantage Organization with a Medicare contract serving nearly 16,000 seniors and adults with chronic disabilities, and Human Arc (Cleveland, OH), a leading nationwide provider of member management services to health plans, announced a new partnership to expand benefits to Elderplan's members.

Under the agreement, Human Arc will provide services that allow Elderplan members who qualify to take advantage of a very significant quality-of-life benefit. Human Arc will conduct, on behalf of the plan, expert outreach to Elderplan's members to help them determine whether their current income and assets qualify them for one of several Medicaid programs, including the federal Medicare Savings Programs (MSP's).

For Medicare beneficiaries who qualify for them, MSP's shift payment responsibility for Medicare Part B premiums to the federal government, so those $96.40 monthly premiums will no longer be deducted from these members' Social Security checks. The bottom line for "dual eligible" (Medicare plus an MSP) seniors is almost $100 more in disposable income every month without a fee of any kind and no change in their Medicare benefits, healthcare plan or providers.

For Elderplan members who qualify for an MSP, Human Arc will provide assistance and support throughout the application process. And since Medicare Savings Program enrollment must be renewed annually, Human Arc also will assist them through their reenrollments as well.

"We chose to partner with Human Arc because of its proven track record and reputation," said Lois R. Faust, Assistant Vice President, Elderplan's Member Operations. "By providing this essential administrative service, we will make a real difference in our members' financial situation and provide them with additional peace of mind."

"We're very excited about this opportunity to work with Elderplan and its members," added Jill Spencer, Human Arc Vice President of Business Development. "Dual eligibility is a blessing for lower income Medicare beneficiaries. Human Arc has an unmatched record in dual eligibility outreach, enrollment and reenrollment. Our associates, specially trained to work compassionately with seniors, have helped many tens of thousands of health plan members in this respect. We are looking forward to helping Elderplan's dually eligible members as well."

Elderplan started as one of the four original Social Health Maintenance Organizations (SHMO's) in the country. Twenty-five years later, Elderplan, a Medicare Advantage Organization with a Medicare contract, serves nearly 16,000 seniors and adults with disabilities in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan and Staten Island. A not-for-profit organization, Elderplan offers a variety of plans tailored to fit the changing needs of Medicare and Dual Eligible (individuals who qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid) beneficiaries at every level of health living in the Greater New York area.
