Empirix Leads Test Effort at Plugfest III

Platinum Sponsor Offers Call Generation, Device Emulation and Management Tools for Testing and Monitoring the Most Applications of Any Plugfest Thus Far

BEDFORD, MA--(Marketwire - October 2, 2007) - Empirix® Inc., which helps organizations adopt complex communications solutions with confidence, announced today that its Hammer Testing and Monitoring Platforms will be used at the upcoming third IMS Forum Plugfest, taking place during the week of October 15 at the University of New Hampshire Interoperability Lab (UNH IOL). Empirix's Hammer portfolio will be used to create HSS interactions, policy decision function (PDF) interactions (for core network) and messaging to help the IMS Forum expand its research into IMS fixed mobile convergence.

Specifically, Empirix's focus will be more on the messaging side, which includes expanding the presence tests from the last Plugfest, and adding in testing for Instant Messages between IMS elements and non-IMS elements, like GSM phones and service on 2G/3G. In addition, Empirix will also be responsible for testing hand-off scenarios from IMS to circuit-switched networks.

Various telephony CLASS features will be tested as well, including Call Waiting, Call Transfer, Selective Call Screening, and Anonymous Call Rejection.

"Participating in the first two IMS Forum Plugfests were great exercises for both Empirix as well as the Forum itself, and we were very enthusiastic to come back for the third round," said Gordon Beith, Senior Product Manager at Empirix, and an active contributor to the IMS Forum. "Empirix's IMS solutions have evolved and matured, providing companies with more confidence about their IMS adoption plans and products. We will continue to provide Empirix's IMS expertise and knowledge during this Plugfest and are happy to see more applications being tested across, and between, IMS cores. We look forward to working with the ever growing number of Plugfest participants and expanding upon the tests conducted during the previous Plugfests."

"Empirix has been a key player in our two previous Plugfest events and we're happy to have them back, both as a participant and as a Platinum sponsor," said Michael Khalilian, Chairman and President of the IMS Forum. "With the theme for our third IMS Plugfest being 'IMS: A Network of Services,' we will be focusing on the realization of applications and services delivered over the IMS and NGN network. In addition, we will also look at interoperability for VoIP and Instant Messaging, along with FMC, Video and Multimedia Services for Businesses and Unified Communications, among others."

For 15 years, Empirix's hallmark with the Hammer test and monitoring solutions have helped Network Equipment Manufacturers (NEMs), Service Providers and Enterprises successfully transition to new technologies, spanning TDM/PSTN, VoIP, NGN, and now IMS-based networks spanning the 3GPP architecture and ETSI TISPAN.

As part of its mission to help enable the adoption of complex new technology waves, Empirix is a member of several quality-focused organizations, including the Multi-Service Forum, the recently launched Voice & Video over IP Quality Alliance (V2oIPQA) and the IMS Forum.
