Enablence Keeps South Texas at the Forefront of Rural Broadband

Existing customer VTCI expands its network with latest ONTs, switch fabrics

OTTAWA, CANADA--(Marketwire - March 1, 2010) - Enablence Technologies Inc. ("Enablence" or the "Company") (TSX VENTURE:ENA), a leading supplier of fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) equipment for triple-play residential and business services and optical components and subsystems for access, metro and long-haul markets, continues to support the expansion of FTTH services in South Texas with new products and a new order from existing customer Valley Telephone Cooperative Inc. (VTCI).

VTCI is a progressive service provider eager to bring the latest technologies to the residents of South Texas. In 1999, it achieved a world first when it delivered DSL Broadband to 100% of its subscribers. Eager to build an advanced, future-proofed network that would allow its Cooperative members to compete in a global economy, VTCI in 2007 turned to Enablence to provide it with the technology it needed to claim another milestone – the first FTTH services in South Texas, which included the triple-play of voice, data and IPTV.

The success of this FTTH deployment has led VTCI to once again look to Enablence to expand and upgrade its fiber network.

VTCI is buying the MAGNM10 and MAGNM 20 Multi Media Aggregation Nodes to take advantage of their capabilities as fully distributed multi-service access platforms purpose-built for broadband access and aggregation. VTCI will deploy MAGNM to support both Active Point-to-Point and GPON FTTH services. In addition, VTCI is purchasing Enablence's new E + G 1320 Optical Network Terminals (ONTs).

MAGNM cost-effectively scales to support a wide range of access technologies. VTCI is taking advantage of this capability to also upgrade its existing MAGNM units with Enablence's new F-8208 High Performance Fabric Module, increasing core bandwidth speeds from 1G to 10G. MAGNM's new fabric modules can be hot-swapped, making it easy and affordable to upgrade existing equipment.

With its new and upgraded Enablence equipment, VTCI will expand its FTTH network over the next two to three years to reach an additional 1,500 Active and GPON subscribers in seven exchanges across South Texas.

"Enablence had already proven itself with products architected to meet our current needs and capable of scaling with advances in technology," said Richard Cavin, VTCI's network manager. "Its highly resilient carrier-grade features and functionality, robust management and focus on developing innovative new products such as the F-8208 switch fabric, make Enablence a partner for the long term."

"VTCI's continued reliance on Enablence demonstrates our commitment to the long-term success of our customers and our emphasis on developing scaleable products that keep pace with the evolving needs of the market," said Tim Thorsteinson, President and COO of Enablence.
