Enbridge Energy Partners Reports Restart of Lakehead System Line 2b

HOUSTON, TX--(Marketwire - January 13, 2010) - Enbridge Energy Partners, L.P. (NYSE: EEP) (the "Partnership") today reported that Line 2b on its Lakehead System was restarted at approximately 9:30 a.m. CT, Wednesday, Jan. 13. Line 2b was shut down Friday evening, Jan. 8, when the Enbridge Control Centre detected a pressure drop that was soon after confirmed as a release of light crude oil.

Final clean up continues at the leak site, located just south of the U.S. - Canada international border in Pembina County, North Dakota. The damaged section of pipe has been sent to a metallurgical laboratory to assist Enbridge and regulatory authorities in their investigation into the cause of the rupture.

The crude oil spilled in the incident is contained on Enbridge's easement, with contaminated snow and soil being transported to licensed landfills for disposal in accordance with applicable safety and environmental regulation.

Enbridge Line 2b, which runs from Cromer, Manitoba, to Superior, Wis., will be operated at 80 percent of its normal operating pressure between Gretna, Manitoba, and Superior while Enbridge and regulators continue their investigation. Volumes are now moving on Line 2b, as well as other Enbridge pipelines that parallel Line 2b, to maintain scheduled deliveries for shippers.
