Encorp Pacific (Canada): Four Greater Victoria Schools Show That Recycling Really Pays Off

VICTORIA, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - June 19, 2009) - Four Greater Victoria schools came out winners in Encorp Pacific's BC School Recycling Program; a province wide competition where schools collect and recycle beverage containers and compete against other registered schools for cash prizes. These winning schools were awarded $750, $500 or $250 by Encorp Pacific (Canada), who created and administered the Contest. To further reward these schools, cash prizes were matched by The Bottle Depot of Saanich and Victoria.

Two of the four schools placed first in their size categories and were awarded a total of $1,500 each: View Royal Elementary and Rogers Elementary. Spectrum Community High School placed 2nd in their size category and was awarded $1,000.00, and Glanford Middle School who placed 3rd was awarded $500.00.

Rogers Elementary held four large-scale bottle drives and raised over $6,000.00 on top of the prize money for their efforts.

On behalf of Encorp Pacific (Canada) and The Bottle Depot congratulations to all schools who participated in the program.

About Encorp Pacific (Canada)

Encorp Pacific (Canada) is a federally incorporated not-for-profit stewardship corporation committed to recover beverage containers from consumers and ensure that they are recycled and not incinerated or landfilled.

Encorp Pacific's BC School Recycling program is a free program available to all recognized schools in the Province of British Columbia. Because many students bring a number of beverage containers to school everyday, Encorp developed a program to encourage the recycling of these containers. Refunded money can be used for school fundraising opportunities. Last year, participating elementary schools collected almost 2.8 million beverage containers and raised over $174,000 in deposit refunds. Participating high schools had their best year yet with almost 2.4 million beverage containers collected and well over $142,000 was raised in deposit refunds. The combined total for the 2008 - 2009 BC School Recycling Programs was well over 5 million containers and $317,000 worth of deposits refunded to participating schools.
