Energate Showcases Live Broadband Demand Response Solution at Distributech

Growing List of Satisfied Customers from Ohio to Oklahoma to Ontario validates the power of Energate's CCDR Solution set

TAMPA, FLORIDA--(Marketwire - March 18, 2010) - Distributech 2010 — Energate, a leading provider of demand response and home energy management solutions for the utility industry, showcases its live Consumer Connected Demand Response™ (CCDR) solution at Distributech 2010.

CCDR delivers a flexible Demand Response (DR) platform for utilities that provides all required functionality for two-way residential demand response, surpassing what is offered today via legacy pager-based technology. The benefits derived from the CCDR solution set include:

  • Two-way communications providing immediate measurement and verification of load control for the utility

  • ZigBee Home Area Networks (HAN) with a full portfolio of options for the consumer's residence and energy management

  • Future-proof devices, fully upgradeable over-the-air

  • Interoperable technology with more AMI systems than any other demand response solution

  • The power of broadband enabling a robust consumer portal with additional benefits

Energate's broadband solution is enabled by its ZIP Connect™ ZigBee to IP bridge. The ZIP Connect communicates securely with Energate servers and establishes a ZigBee Smart Energy Profile HAN to connect to end devices such as Energate's industry-leading Z100 Smart Thermostat and LC301 Load Control Switch.

Energate's CCDR solution set includes a consumer web portal and utility load management system. The consumer portal provides the consumer with the ability to control, program and interact with the Energate smart thermostats and load switches. The Load Management System (LMS) provides the utility ability to control peak demand with real time verification and measurement of effect.

"Our lead customers have told us loud and clear that our CCDR solution set meets today's need for robust two-way information with the flexibility of communicating via AMI networks," said Niraj Bhargava, CEO of Energate. "The Energate team has delivered Smart Grid DR benefits today that have the required versatility for tomorrow"

In addition to broadband, Energate's CCDR solution offers alternative communication paths, including the ubiquitous coverage of one-way Digital FM or a fully AMI-integrated Smart Grid option. Energate boasts the largest number of integration partners of any in-home technology company in the market, with Aclara, Elster, GE, Itron, Landis & Gyr, Silver Spring Networks, Tantalus and Trilliant Networks as examples of recognized interoperability partners.

Several key North American utilities including Hydro One, Oklahoma Gas & Electric, Louisville Gas & Electric and FirstEnergy have initiated projects utilizing Energate's CCDR solution set. Their consumers are deriving the benefits of excellent home comfort and HVAC control while being able to remotely manage their home energy through the CCDR Consumer Portal. Concurrently, utilities are benefiting from CCDR's Load Management System software that allows them to tightly manage load control events. The two-way communication path enables the utility to have measurement and verification information showing the success of the event start within seconds of its launch.

Meet the Energate solution experts at Distributech, in Tampa, Florida in booth 1915, where they will be demonstrating live CCDR over Broadband.
