Enphase Microinverters Power 221kW Solar System for San Francisco Affordable Housing

Microinverter Technology Enables Simpler Design and Installation for Commercial Solar Project

PETALUMA, CA--(Marketwire - April 14, 2010) - Enphase Energy, the leader in solar microinverter systems, today announced that its microinverter technology is powering two solar systems installed on San Francisco affordable housing properties Hayes Valley North and Hayes Valley South. Combined, the two systems produce 221kW of power.

"This project is an important example of how the Enphase Microinverter System can benefit larger commercial solar projects," said Andrew Nichols, vice president of sales for Enphase Energy. "It's gratifying that as we bring the value of microinverters to different sizes and types of solar systems, we are also helping bring clean energy to our community and creating jobs."

The multi-million dollar solar systems at Hayes Valley North and South were developed by Sunwheel Energy Partners, a provider of turnkey solar energy systems for urban and community partners, and integrated by Real Goods Solar, a leading solar energy integrator.

"With both systems spanning multiple rooftops, this project presented a number of design and installation challenges from the outset," said Tyson Grul, director of commercial business for Real Goods. "The simplicity, safety and flexibility of microinverters offered an ideal solution for construction, and the Enlighten monitoring solution made it easy and straightforward to monitor such a complex site."

Sunwheel financed the project through a power purchase agreement, which enabled the community to use the solar-generated electricity without upfront investment or ongoing maintenance costs. The energy savings produced by the solar systems are shared among all residents and common areas of the properties.

In total, the installation represented a 14,000 work-hour process and provided training and jobs for 33 San Francisco residents, including many from the Hayes Valley housing complexes.
