EnterpriseDB Releases New Version of EnterpriseDB Postgres Distribution

MySQL Migration Toolkit Now Available Under Open Source License

EDISON, NJ--(Marketwire - September 27, 2007) - EnterpriseDB today announced the availability of a new version of EnterpriseDB Postgres, the professional-grade distribution of the open source PostgreSQL database. The latest release includes a MySQL-to-PostgreSQL Migration Toolkit and a Procedural Language Debugger. The MySQL-to-PostgreSQL Migration Toolkit, previously available as a proprietary component of EnterpriseDB Advanced Server, the company's flagship commercial database offering, has been re-released under the Artistic License, an OSI-approved open source license. The latest release of EnterpriseDB Postgres can be downloaded at the EnterpriseDB Postgres Resource Center (PRC) at

EnterpriseDB Postgres is an open source, pre-configured, certified-binary PostgreSQL distribution that simplifies enterprise deployment, eliminating the need to source multiple software components on the Web and manually assemble them. EnterpriseDB Postgres includes a one-click installer that delivers the most commonly needed PostgreSQL components and add-ons for both the Linux and Windows operating systems.

"Driving adoption of PostgreSQL is among the company's chief strategic imperatives," said Bob Zurek, chief technology officer, EnterpriseDB. "We frequently receive requests for help in migrating from MySQL to PostgreSQL, so we've released the tools we built for this purpose under an open source license. We are investing heavily in both the creation of the EnterpriseDB Postgres distribution and its home, the PRC. I encourage anyone with an interest in either EnterpriseDB Postgres specifically, or in PostgreSQL generally, to visit the PRC frequently in the upcoming months as we add exciting new content, tools and other resources."

The latest release of EnterpriseDB Postgres includes a MySQL-to-PostgreSQL Migration Toolkit and a Procedural Language Debugger. The MySQL-to-PostgreSQL Migration Toolkit enables the easy migration of MySQL databases, including the data schema, constraints and indexes, to EnterpriseDB Postgres, and provides customized migration via a command line interface.

The Procedural Language Debugger is used to develop and analyze stored procedures, functions, and triggers in applications written for EnterpriseDB Postgres. It allows developers to review code, line-by-line, as it is executed, to set and remove conditional breakpoints, to watch and modify variables, and to view the execution stack.

Key features of the Procedural Language Debugger include:

-- An easy-to-use graphical user interface
-- Support for packages
-- Support for PL/pgSQL, the native PostgreSQL stored procedure language
-- Support for multiple breakpoints
-- Key functions, such as Step Into, Step Over, Restart, Continue, Stop,
    and Exit

The PRC is a community-based website for application developers and DBAs and is sponsored by EnterpriseDB. The PRC provides free downloads of EnterpriseDB Postgres and serves as a rich repository of technical information, tools, and other valuable resources. The site also hosts community-based forums, enabling EnterpriseDB Postgres users to interact with peers and leverage the collective experience of the EnterpriseDB Postgres community.
