Essential Baby Equipment Drives Up Home Contents Value

MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Oct. 11, 2009) - Sarah Michelle Gellar, famous for her role as Buffy Summers in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has just given birth to daughter Charlotte Grace Prinze. Along with husband Freddie Prinze Jnr, Gellar is expected to splash out $1,000s on baby accessories over the next few months.

Swinton, the UK's leading high street retailer of home insurance, estimates that in the first year alone new parents can spend up to Pounds Sterling 2,000 on essential baby equipment. Modern buggies cost as much as Pounds Sterling 300, prams up to Pounds Sterling 700 and a cot can be in excess of Pounds Sterling 800.

In August it was reported that the UK population had topped 61 million for the first time which has been attributed to a recent baby birth boom.

Swinton is recommending that families investing in expensive baby accessories check that their home insurance provides adequate cover, and to be aware that certain items may need accidental damage cover.

Steve Chelton, Insurer Development Manager for Swinton, said: "With a new born baby in the house, the last thing on parents' mind is home insurance. But it's worth taking a few minutes to check your policy and ensure that you're fully covered, especially if spending lots of money on expensive baby equipment."
