TOKYO--(Marketwire - June 23, 2010) - Today, Evernote, makers of the popular multi-platform memory enhancing service, announced the formation of its wholly owned Japanese subsidiary, Evernote Japan. The objective of the new company is to better serve Evernote's rapidly growing Japanese user-base and its numerous local technology and developer partners. Evernote Japan will be headquartered in Tokyo and headed by Takeshi Nakajima, vice president of Japanese Operations. Prior to joining Evernote, Mr. Nakajima had a management role within the VAIO Business Group at Sony Corporation.
In the three months since Evernote officially launched its Japanese-language version, usage in Japan has grown dramatically. Today, Japan is Evernote's second largest market, representing nearly 15 percent of the service's daily traffic. Various factors have contributed to this popularity, including high-profile partnerships with leading Japanese technology companies such as Sony, Canon, Fujitsu, NEC, and others. In addition, a number of books have been published about Evernote in the past three months, with over 50,000 copies sold.

In addition to Takeshi Nakajima, Evernote Japan has appointed Hitoshi Hokamura, an influential veteran of the Japanese IT industry, Silicon Valley entrepreneur and former marketing director of Apple Japan, as chairman of Evernote Japan.
Evernote Japan's Tokyo office will have a full-time local staff focused on support, marketing, community engagement, and product development.
Evernote adds Japanese character recognition
Coinciding with the launch, Evernote is also announcing that the company's image recognition technology now supports Japanese characters. Beginning today, new images added to Evernote containing printed Japanese characters will be indexed and made searchable for those with Japanese set as their recognition language. Evernote Premium subscribers can have all of their old notes re-indexed. Users can access these options from the Settings section of Evernote Web.
