ENGLEWOOD, CO--(Marketwire - November 7, 2007) -
-- No need to pre-allocate and pre-provision phone numbers and services
-- Overcomes SIM card supply chain inflexibility for regional number
allocation
-- Improves mobile number utilization and resource efficiency
-- Enables pre-paid customers a choice of phone number and allows the
carrier to monetize this
-- Provides significant cost savings both in network elements and SIM
card logistics
Evolving Systems, Inc. (
NASDAQ:
EVOL), a leading provider of software
solutions and services to the wireless, wireline and IP carrier market,
today announced that it is launching its Dynamic SIM Allocation™
solution worldwide.
In countries around the world, mobile phone Subscriber Identity Module
(SIM) cards are either pre-provisioned before they are distributed to the
retail environment or are provisioned at the point-of-sale.
Pre-provisioned SIM cards are inflexible as the mobile phone number
associated with them has already been defined long before the SIM card is
sold. Provisioning the SIM card at point-of-sale or requiring the
subscriber to use web-based portals can be more flexible but requires
either the retailer to have expensive systems or the subscriber to have
access to a PC and a broadband connection -- something not always available
in many prepaid markets.
Evolving Systems' Dynamic SIM Allocation solution allows wireless carriers
to offer resource efficiency benefits and improve their customer experience
by provisioning at point-of-sale without the demands on the retailer or
subscriber infrastructure. The platform allows mobile phone SIM cards to
be activated when the phone is first switched on and used. The only
interaction the subscriber needs to have with the carrier is in the palm of
their hand, the handset itself.
Wireless carriers that use this solution can order and distribute SIM cards
without needing to pre-allocate and provision various properties such as
the mobile phone number. When these SIM cards are put into a mobile phone
and the phone is switched on for the first time, the solution automatically
detects it and takes over the allocation of the required properties taking
into account the subscribers needs and location.
The Dynamic SIM Allocation platform addresses a variety of pain points that
wireless carriers experience including:
-- Wireless carriers that have regional number allocation can overcome
SIM card supply chain inflexibility to reduce SIM card logistical and
capacity costs.
-- For wireless carriers that have a high proportion of SIM cards that
are never activated, the solution improves the utilization of mobile phone
numbers, reducing the cost of acquiring and owning number ranges while
making sure new numbers are always available to meet demand.
-- Prepaid subscribers have traditionally been unable to choose their
mobile phone number easily and from a wide range of available numbers.
With this solution, prepaid subscribers can choose their number using just
their mobile phone, and carriers can monetize their valuable stock of
vanity or golden numbers.
"Our DSA solution gives carriers a competitive advantage by providing
enhanced efficiency in SIM inventory management and improved customer
experience by giving prepaid customers more choice when selecting their
mobile phone number," said Thad Dupper, president and CEO of Evolving
Systems. "In addition, we currently have a customer implementing Dynamic
SIM who expects to achieve significant improvements in their SIM supply
chain."
