Exceptional Year for Canada at ANUGA: Minister Blackburn Salutes the Success of the Canadian Agri-Food Industry

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 26, 2009) - Minister of National Revenue and Minister of State (Agriculture) Jean-Pierre Blackburn salutes the agri-food industry's success at the ANUGA trade show held in Cologne, Germany, from October 10 to 14, 2009. The anticipated impact of Canada's participation in the 2009 edition had been estimated at some $50 million, but the benefits are now assessed at nearly $146 million. That makes this an exceptional year, one of the best for Canada's participation in this largest agri-food show in the world.

"Our exporters take every opportunity to promote the exceptional and innovative quality of Canadian agri-food products. The experience at ANUGA is yet another demonstration of our industry's excellence!" said the Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn. "Canada's participation in ANUGA this year can be qualified as a real success, as the impact has more than doubled since the 2007 edition, which generated approximately $63 million."

ANUGA is the largest agri-food trade show in the world. The 2009 edition included 6,522 exhibitors from 97 countries and 153,500 visitors from 180 countries. The Canadian delegation was made up of over 90 businesses.
