FBU Welcomes Chief Fire Officer's Positive Response

ESSEX, ENGLAND--(Marketwire - April 27, 2010) - The FBU has welcomed the chief fire officer's positive response to their call for the potential deal to be put back on the table and for talks to resume.

Keith Flynn said: "We were very disappointed to have been so close to reaching an agreement only to find the deal withdrawn. We have received further clarification from the chief which confirms the willingness of both sides to bottom out the final details under negotiation and we see this as a positive development."

The FBU are consulting with fire crews to see if they are willing to suspend their long running industrial action to let their negotiators see these talks through.

Keith Flynn: "This has been a long and acrimonious dispute, punctuated by a series of false dawns. It has not yet been resolved but an agreement to end the dispute depends on the level of trust that can be re-built between the top floor and fire crews on the frontline. We have called a meeting of workplace reps from across the county for Thursday evening to decide upon our recommendation to the General Secretary on the response to the chief fire officer's proposal."
