FaceTime and Blue Coat Work Together to Extend Granular Controls for Social Media and Web 2.0 Applications

Enables Enterprises to Set More Flexible Policies Around New Web Applications for Increased Collaboration and Employee Productivity

BELMONT, CA--(Marketwire - February 10, 2010) - FaceTime Communications (www.facetime.com), the leading provider of solutions enabling the safe use of Web 2.0 and Unified Communications in the enterprise, today announced that it is working with Blue Coat Systems, Inc., the technology leader in Application Delivery Networking, to further extend the policy flexibility of the Blue Coat secure web gateway solution to a wide spectrum of instant messaging, social media and other web applications. Together, Blue Coat® ProxySG® appliances and FaceTime's Unified Security Gateway (USG) provide more granular controls of web applications, enabling enterprises to adopt flexible policies.

"Web 2.0 applications and social networking malware pose a growing threat to corporate networks, and IT managers are looking for new ways to filter and control Web 2.0 and Internet applications rather than simply blocking access," said Kailash Ambwani, president and CEO of FaceTime. "By partnering with Blue Coat, we deliver a winning solution for customers who want to embrace new communications channels in a way that secures their networks from threats and data leakage."

FaceTime's USG 3.0 provides granular control of Web 2.0 applications, monitoring, securing and recording content to reduce outbound data leaks and enable compliance with industry regulations, legal discovery requirements, and corporate policy standards. FaceTime's USG also logs social media conversations in compliance with the strictest requirements for record-keeping and tamper-proof data auditing for customers in highly regulated industries such as financial services, insurance, energy, education and health care.

Blue Coat ProxySG appliances, working in conjunction with the cloud-based Blue Coat® WebPulse™ service, analyze and categorize dynamic links that are hosted on social media sites and then apply granular corporate IT policies to users accessing that content. WebPulse unites more than 62 million users in a collaborative defense, where the discovery of a threat by a single user is shared to provide all users with continuous protection against emerging threats. Additionally, the Blue Coat® ProxyAV™ appliance provides inline scanning of all downloaded files.

The ability of the Blue Coat ProxySG appliances to apply IT policies based on many different user, group, content, time, location and other parameters, enables enterprises to enforce granular yet flexible policies for greater productivity. Working together, ProxySG appliances and FaceTime's USG can manage and apply corporate IT policies to blog posts, wikis, webmail and content posted to and downloaded from social networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube.

"Social media and Web 2.0 are exceptionally important to the media industry," said Ian Wightman, Group IT Network Director, of Trinity Mirror, "However, equally important is the requirement to ensure that these new communications tools are used not just appropriately and securely, but also that organizations are able to apply and enforce policies that protect both corporate data and brand reputation."

"As the web has evolved, there is a deluge of new applications, peer-to-peer communications and two-way publishing that requires more granular controls to ensure that enterprises can adopt and utilize them with confidence," said Carrie Oakes, vice president of product marketing at Blue Coat Systems. "Together, Blue Coat and FaceTime enable enterprises to create more flexible IT policies around these applications and provide collaborative tools to encourage their use and boost employee productivity."
