Fairfax Public Safety Transportation and Operations Center Deploys MobileAccess In-Building Wireless Solution

MobileAccess Delivers Flexible, Reliable Wireless Communications for First Responders, Traffic Management and Others Served by County-Wide Emergency Operations Center

VIENNA, VA--(Marketwire - April 20, 2010) - MobileAccess, a global provider of enterprise wireless solutions, today announced that the Fairfax County, Va. McConnell Public Safety and Transportation Operations Center (MPSTOC) has deployed the MobileAccess2000 in-building wireless solution to deliver reliable wireless communications for government agencies involved in public safety response, traffic congestion management, and other public services. The deployment of the MobileAccess multi-service distributed antenna system (DAS) was led by Fairfax County Department of Information Technology (DIT) with assistance from RCC Consultants, Inc. (RCC) a global telecommunications consulting, engineering and integration firm, and Cellular Specialties, Inc. (CSI), an organization that delivers products and solutions enabling indoor wireless connectivity.

Because the MPSTOC is shared by multiple government organizations, a wireless solution that met each agency's need for emergency communications and daily operations was required. Also, to improve effectiveness and efficiency, the system must not only provide full service for all the respective wireless carriers, Internet access, and data, but also run over a single cabling and antenna infrastructure. MobileAccess also provided seamless integration for paging and public safety wireless communications, allowing the MPSTOC to maximize the use of co-located assets for more effective communication among all the partner agencies.

About Fairfax County's McConnell Public Safety and Transportation Operations Center (MPSTOC)
MPSTOC is an approximately 114,000-square-foot facility, which is considered a model for multi-agency coordination and cooperation. This highly secured, state-of-the-art facility provides efficient public safety and transportation services, and facilitates cost-effective provisioning of services between levels of county, state and regional government. Its critical components include Fairfax County's Department of Public Safety Communications (9-1-1 Center), Office of Emergency Management and Emergency Operations Center; the Virginia State Police Division 7 call-takers and dispatchers; and the Virginia Department of Transportation Traffic Operations Center. Fairfax County Police Department's Forensic facility, which is approximately 33,000 square feet, is co-located with the MPSTOC facility, and is also included in the coverage footprint of the DAS.

"The Fairfax MPSTOC DAS is truly a work of art," said Stephen Mandas, project engineer, RCC Consultants. "With a fully integrated WLAN solution, MobileAccess and RCC accommodated all major wireless service providers over a unified backbone, eliminating the hassle of separate cable runs, antennas or additional electronics that other solutions would require. Plus, MobileAccess' future-ready technology allows for customers like Fairfax MPSTOC to easily scale and support new wireless solutions and applications without the need for additional wiring."

The MobileAccess in-building wireless infrastructure accommodates multiple carriers and services over a single unified hybrid fiber and coax architecture. This includes always-on coverage from the four major carriers, as well as multiple voice and data services, a wireless local area network (WLAN) supporting voice over IP (VoIP) applications, paging and cellular-based public safety communications.

"The MPSTOC installation represented a significant architectural and installation challenge," said Kelley Carr, president, Customs Solutions Group at CSI. "Each wireless service provider had individual RF source requests for the DAS, so we had to meet their carrier specific requirements to ensure a neutral host for proper communications. CSI's relationships with each respective carrier as well as MobileAccess helped meet Fairfax's tight deadlines."
