Far West Mining Ltd.: Ground Geophysical Surveying has Commenced on the Georgetown Silver-Lead-Zinc Project in Queensland, Australia

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - May 23, 2006) - Far West Mining Ltd. (TSX:FWM) is pleased to announce that ground geophysical surveying (moving loop TEM) commenced on May 9, 2006 on the Georgetown Silver-Lead-Zinc Project in Queensland, Australia. The survey is designed to further define electromagnetic anomalies that were identified by an earlier airborne GEOTEM survey. The ground geophysical data will provide additional target information to facilitate subsequent drill testing of the anomalies. It is estimated that the survey will be completed by early July with drill testing to commence in July/August of 2006.

Georgetown Silver-Lead-Zinc Project in Queensland Australia

Far West and its partner BHP Billiton are currently exploring for Broken Hill-type (BHT) deposits in the Georgetown area of Queensland, Australia, located approximately 300km west of port facilities at the coastal city of Townsville. The Georgetown Project Area is believed to have the potential to host BHT-style deposits such as Broken Hill (280 Mt @ 10.0% Pb, 8.5% Zn, 150g/t Ag) and Cannington (45 Mt @ 11.9% Pb, 4.8% Zn, 520g/t Ag).

In October 2005 Fugro Airborne Surveys Pty. Inc. completed a 7,817 line km airborne electromagnetic/magnetic survey at 400m line spacing over the Georgetown properties, which cover an area of 3,600 sq km. The survey outlined in excess of 70 anomalies from which Far West and BHPB selected 16 priority targets for follow-up by ground geophysics (moving loop TEM and magnetics). The geophysical data obtained from the ground surveys will provide detailed depth information that will facilitate subsequent drill testing of the targets.

Far West has contracted a drill rig for the Georgetown Project for initial exploration drilling of the geophysical targets. Drilling is expected to commence in July/August 2006.

The in-house qualified persons responsible for the Project are Robert E. Hindson, P. Eng., Chief Executive Officer, President and a director of Far West, and J. Patricio Varas, P. Geo.
