Downsview Park's annual Canada Day celebration and summer camps scheduled as planned

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 25, 2009) - All are invited to celebrate our nation's birthday on July 1, 2009 with tons of FREE family fun and a spectacular fireworks display set to music, at Canada's national urban park in the heart of the Greater Toronto Area.

Celebrate our youth during Downsview Park's Canada Day fun, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., featuring children's activities and entertainment including FREE amusement rides, FREE petting zoo, FREE climbing wall, FREE face painting and airbrush tattoos, balloon artists and firebuskers.

Celebrate our past. Travel back in time as the Military Reenactment Society of Canada, Incorporated Militia of Upper Canada sets up camp and brings to life Canada's military history from a time when our freedom was in jeopardy.

Celebrate our future. A Citizenship and Immigration Ceremony will welcome 142 new Canadians on this our country's 142nd birthday.

Celebrate sport. Join Toronto Roller Derby as they move into their new home at the Downsview Park Sports Centre and kicks off the holiday with a FREE double-header.

Celebrate our country. Top off your day of fun with Downsview Park's fireworks extravaganza, lighting up the night sky with a kaleidoscope of colour choreographed to music, starting at 10 p.m.

Downsview Park also offers daycamps and summer programs. Residents can consider Downsview Park's Summer Dayz camp - fun, education and interactive activities with a focus on sustainability. Downsview Park's Summer Dayz Camp offers action-packed days throughout the summer for children 6 to 12 years old. Though space is limited, Downsview Park will do their utmost to accommodate the needs of those families who require alternative summertime care for their children.

Downsview Park is easy to get to. Take the 101 Parc Downsview Park bus from Downsview subway station, a five-minute bus ride. Downsview Park's central location is also serviced by the 400-series highways (401, 400 and 407).

Formerly a military base (CFB Toronto), Downsview Park was established by the Government of Canada, stipulating that the land be developed as "a unique urban recreational greenspace for the enjoyment of future generations."
