Feldco Windows, Siding, & Doors Leading the Way in EPA Lead-Safe Renovation

DES PLAINES, IL--(Marketwire - April 26, 2010) -  Beginning April 22, 2010, a new federal law requires that contractors performing renovation, repair and painting projects that disturb more than six square feet of paint in homes built before 1978 must be certified and trained to follow specific containment practices and stringent clean-up procedures to prevent lead contamination.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is urging consumers to protect their homes and families by ensuring that they only hire Lead-Safe Certified firms for their home improvement projects. Contractors and home improvement firms that do not comply with the new regulations face expensive fines, imprisonment and further liability by putting home owners at risk for lead poisoning.

Feldco, the Midwest's leading provider of home replacement windows, siding and doors is fully EPA certified for lead-based Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) at all of its locations. Further, Feldco has received EPA accreditation as a RRP training provider, ensuring that all of its employees and partners are fully trained and compliant to provide customer safety, satisfaction and peace of mind.

"Home replacement companies have known these new regulations were coming since 2008, so Feldco is leading the way in making this transition hassle-free for our customers," says Doug Cook, President of Feldco. "We are doing all the preparation on our end to ensure that our customers will feel safe and worry-free as we update the safety, quality and beauty of their homes. Home owners should still educate themselves on these new EPA requirements not only so they abide by the new laws, but to reduce lead exposure to themselves and their families. The way we do our work may be different, but it will be safer and healthier for everyone."

Feldco actually began practicing lead-safe renovation work BEFORE the April 22 deadline. "We did this to make sure that we fully understood the intricacies of the process, and how it will affect the customer's overall home improvement experience," said Mr. Cook. "We think, overall, that the customer will be even more delighted with their Feldco window, siding and door projects because of the steps that we have taken in this process."

One element that Feldco intends to keep unchanged is the cost to the customer. "We hope that with our experience and our expertise that we will be able to provide the additional materials and work required without increasing our prices at all," said Cook. "Most companies are talking about increases of hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars for home improvement projects. But we think we have the technical capability and skilled employees to be able to provide this enhanced service without increasing the price to the homeowner."

Feldco is the Midwest's leading provider of home replacement solutions, specializing in Windows, Siding, and Doors. Feldco serves the Chicagoland, Madison, Milwaukee, Indianapolis, Rockford, and Central Illinois areas.
