Fife House Announces Major Three-Year Sponsorship From Sun Life Financial

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - May 30, 2006) -

Sun Life Financial Sponsorship to support Fife House's crucial Volunteer Services Program

The sun in the Fife House logo is shining brightly today with the announcement of a major three-year commitment from Sun Life Financial, one of Canada's leading financial services organizations. The sponsorship, valued at $20,000 per year, is one of the most valuable multi-year commitments made in Fife House history, and will support the organization's Volunteer Services Program. Fife House is Toronto's leading provider of secure and supportive affordable housing and services to people living with HIV/AIDS.

"Volunteers are the life blood of Fife House," says Ruthann Tucker, Fife House Executive Director. "The Volunteer Services Program is crucial to our leadership and expertise in the area of supportive housing/support services, and outreach services for people living with HIV/AIDS. Our volunteers provide programs and services to a diverse, changing and growing client population that necessitates current, broad and diverse skills. This generous financial contribution from Sun Life Financial will ensure we can continue to recruit, screen and train the very best volunteers to work with us."

"Sun Life Financial is pleased to increase its level of support to Fife House. By sponsoring the Volunteer Services Program, we are combining our corporate mandate of partnering with organizations that are leaders in their field and focusing our philanthropy on health, with our desire to encourage and support volunteerism in the community," says Linda MacKenzie, Senior Manager, Corporate Donations and Sponsorships with Sun Life Financial. "We look forward to building upon our relationship with Fife House as they continue to recruit and retain high quality volunteers to deliver the important services Fife House provides."

In 2005, more than 300 volunteers contributed over 23,000 hours to Fife House and its residents and clients. Volunteers are seen as an integral part of Fife House's human resources, and provided with training, education and support in order to continue to maintain, and to increase the quantity and quality of the services provided to our clients, as well as in the areas of governance, development, and administration of the agency.

There are four main elements of the Volunteer Services Program - Volunteer Recruitment Program, Volunteer Support and Recognition Program, Volunteer Driver Program and the Jarvis Apartment Meal Program. The Program is designed to ensure that Fife House attracts motivated individuals with the ability to work with people living with HIV/AIDS, and to manage volunteer retention through recognition programs; turnover and recruitment.
