Fig Tree Foundation: Iconic University of Calgary Business Professor Joins Foundation Board

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Sept. 16, 2009) - The Fig Tree Charitable Foundation, a Calgary-based organization dedicated to helping disadvantaged populations around the world by fostering collaboration between, and raising funds for, registered international development organizations, is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Robert Schulz to its board of Directors.

Dr. Schulz is a Professor of Strategic Management at the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary, where he has been teaching since 1973. He is recognized worldwide both in academic and professional circles for his practical approach to business. Dr. Schulz was the first recipient of the Order of the University of Calgary for his service to others and has served on many public and private boards. He currently holds four degrees including a B.A. from St. Vincent College, a B.Sc. from the University of Notre Dame, a M.B.A from the University of Pittsburgh and a Ph.D in business from The Ohio State University.

"Dr. Bob," as he is affectionately known to his students and alumni, has won over 20 outstanding teaching awards including a 3M Teaching Fellowship as one of Canada's top 10 teachers among 39,000 professors. In addition, he has been named in 7 major "Who's Who" publications. He is well known as coach of the legendary inter-collegiate business competition teams, which have won 58 undergraduate national championships and 20 international awards.

Despite his busy schedule, Dr. Bob manages to keep in touch with many of the thousands of students he has taught over his 36-year career, many which now make up the Calgary business elite.

One of Dr. Schulz's first activities as a board member will be to assist the Fig Tree Foundation present the Canadian premiere of "What Are We Doing Here?" on September 23, 2009, at the University of Calgary. This event hopes to raise questions around international aid and will focus on finding sustainable solutions to complicated issues. "I look forward to working with the Fig Tree Foundation to expand their unique model of sharing best practices among NGOs," says Schulz.

FTF's unique structure includes the Roundtable, a forum for local non-governmental organizations to meet. The purpose of the Roundtable is to provide an environment for collaborative ventures and cooperation between organizations.
