LONDON, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 16, 2009) - The Canadian Association of Family Enterprise has announced the finalists for the Southwestern Ontario Family Enterprise of the Year 2009. This award recognizes significant achievement made within a Southwestern Ontario family enterprise and will be presented at National Family Business Day, October 22, 2009.

Finalists are: Dowler-Karn Limited (St. Thomas), Flanagan Foodservice Inc. (Kitchener), and Hayter's Turkey Farms Ltd. (Dashwood). Nominees were judged by a committee of noted family businesses and family business advisors on their history, successes and corporate image/culture, acknowledging their contributions to Canadian family business. The two finalists and one winner will be presented and honored at National Family Business Day, October 22, 2009.

Mark Malerba of Metropolitan Maintenance, last year's award recipient and the Committee Chair for 2009 commented, "Family businesses are a vital part of not only our economy but society in general. It is important to recognize and honour those family businesses that have demonstrated excellence in their industry, community and within their organization."

Leone Rowland, Associate Partner, KPMG LLP, commented, "Recognizing the importance and celebrating the achievements of family business is critical in today's environment. With all the challenges facing businesses today, it's important to share in the positive aspects as well. Learning of these successful family business stories acts as inspiration for other families."

About Hayter's Turkey Farms Ltd. - Sixty years ago, Harry Hayter began "talking turkey" and the tradition has continued now for three generations. As good stewards of the land, Hayters have successfully "no-tilled" crops since 1982. This method has reduced carbon in the air, reduced fuel consumption and minimized soil loss. The Hayter Family is committed to passing the farm on to the next generation in better environmental shape for the family and community. The second and third generations are as committed as Harry in providing our customers with the best quality turkey products.
