Finisar Brings Increased Reliability and Flexibility to Satellite and CATV Distribution Applications
New 1310nm Optical Components Reduce Cost While Meeting SMPTE 424ME Test Matrix Specifications
| Source: Finisar
SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwire - September 22, 2008) - ECOC BRUSSELS -- Finisar Corporation (NASDAQ : FNSR ), a global technology leader in fiber optic solutions for high speed
networks, today announced availability of four new 1310nm optical
components designed to meet the stringent specifications of high-speed
video applications. Based on the emerging SMPTE 424ME standard for 3 Gbps
SDI (3G-SDI) data transmissions, these components consist of FP and DFB
lasers, and PIN or PIN+TIA receivers. These devices are specifically
designed for Satellite and CATV broadcast equipment and modules. These new
optical components will be on display at Finisar's booth #379 at ECOC in
Brussels, September
22-24.
Part of the challenge in designing equipment to 3G-SDI is maintaining a
significant jitter injection margin. Analog modulation is required for
video applications and is a potential source of loss resulting in reduced
video quality. The new 1310nm components are built with Finisar's patented
laser and optical assembly technologies, and are designed to withstand the
test matrixes called out in the 3G-SDI standard.
Finisar's new optical components simplify video equipment development by
preserving signal integrity across links so engineers have more margin and
therefore greater flexibility in focusing their design resources, resulting
in faster
time-to-market. In addition, both pigtailed and bulkhead mounted versions
are available, giving engineers multiple options in designing broadcast
equipment. Low-cost internal manufacturing capabilities also enable
Finisar to bring these components to market with competitive pricing.
"Video applications are vulnerable to quality degradation unless sufficient
signal integrity margin is maintained," said Jim Tatum, director of
marketing at Finisar's Advanced Optical Components. "Finisar's proven
optical technology will help establish its presence in the high-speed video
market by enabling its customers to exceed SMPTE 424ME specifications."
Finisar has released four new components including the FP-1310-5I-50SMF-xx
FP laser, DFB-1310-4I-50SMF-xx DFB lasers, PIN-1310-50SMF-xx PIN
photodiodes, and a PIN-1310-2I-LC PIN+TIA receiver. Each component
includes electrical flex circuit or pin interface options, as well as
robust pigtails which can be customized on length and connector type. The
PIN-1310-2I-LC PIN+TIA receiver is designed to be paired with Finisar's
FP-1310-5I-LCA. All components are sampling now and will be available in
volume production by Q4 2008.
