Fire Brigades Union Calls for Real Equality in the Fire Service

HAMPSHIRE, ENGLAND--(Marketwire - April 28, 2010) - The Fire Brigades Union today called for a drive to get real equality between men and women in the fire service.

In the wake of firefighter Kate Ellis's courtroom settlement, in which the FBU supported Ms Ellis and she received an agreed sum from the fire service to recompense her for sexist treatment, general secretary Matt Wrack called for a new drive to eliminate sexist treatment of women firefighters.

"I do not want to see one single woman firefighter ever again having to go through what Kate Ellis has been through" said Mr Wrack. "But unless the fire service leads from the front on this issue, we will; see it all again."
