LONDON, ENGLAND--(Marketwire - April 23, 2010) - Matt Wrack has been re-elected as general secretary of the Fire Brigades Union, securing 61 per cent of votes returned against 39 per cent for John McGhee, the union's national officer for equality and fairness at work.

Matt Wrack said: "It's a great honour to be re-elected as general secretary. We give notice to politicians of all parties who wish to slash the fire service that we will campaign to defend jobs and services against cuts to keep the public safe. All members of the FBU need to unite in the face of attacks on jobs and services".

In the ballot, 42,376 papers were issued and 10,039 returned, with 6088 members voting for Matt Wrack and 3920 for John McGhee. There were 31 spoiled papers.
