First Marblehead Names Todd H. Estabrook Senior Vice President, Marketing

BOSTON, MA--(Marketwire - October 1, 2007) - The First Marblehead Corporation (NYSE: FMD) today announced that Todd H. Estabrook has joined the Company as Senior Vice President, Marketing. He will report to Greg Johnson, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer.

Mr. Estabrook will be responsible for developing and launching marketing and advertising programs for direct to consumer clients where First Marblehead manages all or a part of the client's marketing effort.

Mr. Estabrook joins First Marblehead from Commonwealth Financial where he served as Vice President, Marketing since 2004. He oversaw the execution of all marketing initiatives, including advertising, direct marketing, media planning and public relations. Prior to that he served as Senior Vice President for Fidelity Investments, where he managed Fidelity's internal advertising agency.
