First Point Minerals Announces New Board Member

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Jan. 3, 2008) - Dr. Peter Bradshaw, President of First Point Minerals Corp. ("First Point") (TSX VENTURE:FPX), is very pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. John Gammon to the Board of Directors of First Point.

Dr. Gammon's twenty years international exploration experience, largely with Falconbridge Nickel Mines Limited, led to the discovery of two nickel-copper deposits in Norway. Internationally, Dr. Gammon also worked on a variety of nickel and base metal deposits in the Philippines, Thailand, Brazil and the US. Closer to home, he was responsible for exploration and development of the Windy Craggy massive sulphide deposit in BC which included liaison with the provincial government at Cabinet level.

More recently, as Assistant Deputy Minister, Mines and Minerals, Government of Ontario, Dr. Gammon acted as a senior advisor on all mining issues to five successive provincial governments as well as having program responsibility for the Ontario Geological Survey, mineral land tenure administration, environmental regulation of mining, mine site reclamation, mineral policy and investment attraction activities. Dr. Gammon's leadership is directly credited with maintaining a vibrant exploration and mining industry in Ontario through the very difficult times for the industry in the late 1980s and the 90s. A significant amount of time was also spent working with Ontario's Far North aboriginal communities on mining and land claim issues.

Dr. Gammon is founder and Co-Chair of the World Mines Ministries Forums based in Toronto and was successful in establishing the "Centre for Excellence in Mining Innovation" at Laurentian University which initially raised over $20 million for research in geosciences, deep mining, telerobotics and the environment. Dr. Gammon, who holds undergraduate and Ph.D. degrees in geology, also serves on several other boards of directors.

Dr. Gammon's depth of knowledge and experience in mineral exploration, government policy, environmental and social issues will also be a great asset to the Board of First Point Minerals. His appointment is subject to regulatory approvals.

The Board of Directors has approved the granting of 150,000 stock options to Dr. Gammon pursuant to the Company's incentive stock option plan. The options are effective January 2, 2008, have an exercise price of $0.15 per share and expire January 2, 2013.

Dr. Bradshaw also announced that Mr. Patrick Mars has stepped down from the Board of First Point after 7 years of service, to focus on other responsibilities. On behalf of the Board, Dr. Bradshaw expressed his most sincere thanks to Mr. Mars for his excellent advice and support over the years.

First Point is a Canadian precious and base metal exploration company focused on the Americas.
