Flooding Highlights Importance of Commercial Insurance

MIDDLESEX, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Dec. 14, 2009) - The recent flooding in Cumbria should cause businesses to look at whether they have adequate commercial insurance cover. This is according to leading brokers Flint Insurance, who are advising those in business to consider policies carefully to ensure that they are fully protected against any damage which could potentially leave them out of pocket.

According to reports, the flooding which recently devastated parts of the Lake District could affect other areas of the U.K, leaving many businesses at the threat of damage to their property, goods and subsequent loss of earnings.

In total, 1,300 properties were affected by the recent floods in Cumbria, caused by record amounts of rainfall. Among these were many commercial premises in the towns of Cockermouth, Keswick, Workington, Burneside and Kendal. Based on estimates that 25% of the damage was done to commercial property, the damage could amount to over £100million.

This is not the first time that the area has been affected by flooding, in 2005; the people of Carlisle experienced around £0.3 Billion in losses due to floods in the city. In June and July 2007, flooding in other areas caused losses of approximately £1.25-1.75 billion and £1-1.5 billion respectively.

Based in Harrow, Middlesex, Flint Insurance are independent insurance brokers, covering both commercial and domestic markets. In addition to a range of motor and household cover, they also offer bespoke policies to cater to the varied needs of businesses in all sectors.
