Florida Bar Grants Prestigious Construction Law Board-Certification to Weston Resident Attorney

Becker & Poliakoff Practicing Attorney Lisa Colon Receives Florida Bar's Highest Level of Recognition for Legal Expertise in Construction Law

FT. LAUDERDALE, FL--(Marketwire - August 6, 2008) - Becker & Poliakoff, P.A., a diversified commercial law firm with more than 125 attorneys in 15 offices throughout Florida, in New York City, and affiliated offices in Europe, Asia and the Middle East, today announced that attorney Lisa Colon has been granted certification by the Florida Bar in the area of construction law in recognition of special knowledge, skills and proficiency in construction law in the state of Florida.

Board-certification is the Florida Bar's highest level of recognition of an attorney's competency and experience in one or more of the 20 areas of law approved for certification by the Supreme Court of Florida. Any lawyer who is a member in good standing of The Florida Bar and who meets the standards prescribed by the state's Supreme Court may apply for board-certification.

Only attorneys who have earned the Florida Bar's "board-certification" distinction are allowed to describe themselves as legal specialists or experts in a specific field of practice.

With Ms. Colon's certification, Becker & Poliakoff's expanding construction law group now boasts nine board-certified attorneys. Becker & Poliakoff's statewide construction law practice is chaired by shareholder Steven Lesser and vice-chaired by shareholder Lee Weintraub. Both attorneys work from the firm's Fort Lauderdale office and both were board-certified in construction law by the Florida Bar in 2005.

"Our law firm is honored that the Florida Bar has granted Lisa Colon board-certification for her demonstrated knowledge and high degree of professional ability in the area of construction law," said Steven Lesser. "Ms. Colon's new certification demonstrates the level of service and expertise we're committed to providing our clients."

Ms. Colon was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1999 and practices in the areas of Construction and Commercial Litigation with primary focus on cases involving construction defect claims in post hurricane environments. She holds a B.A. from the University of Miami and graduated cum laude with a J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law in 1999. In 2007, Ms. Colon was the recipient of a Women and Minority Fellowship from the American Bar Association Forum on the Construction Industry, an award designed to encourage greater participation of women and minority attorneys in the ABA Forum and other programs.

Also earning the distinction of Board-Certification in the field of Construction Law this year is Tom Code, an attorney with Becker and Poliakoff's Fort Myers office.

The Becker & Poliakoff Construction Law Group represents owners, developers, contractors, sureties, individuals and others in transactions and disputes ranging from single and multi-family dwellings to commercial buildings, planned unit developments, retail, industrial and governmental projects.
